☞ READ: Harlem Community Garden Bees
So it turns out raising bees are illegal in New York City but many are deciding to do so in Brooklyn or Harlem. This weeks New York Times article takes a look at hobby that New Yorkers have to conceal from the authorities until the law gets changed. The bees are seen as a dangerous animal but supporters would argue that they are needed as part of the ecosystem. One Columbia student had a hard time finding a home for his hives until a local Harlem community garden agreed to house them. There's actually a honey bee epidemic that has decimated 70% of the east coast population so this might be a good idea for all the local parks since the flora would benefit from it.
