☞ WALK: The Spring Conservatory Garden
This is the time of year to really take advantage of the many parks that are all around Harlem. We walked by Central Park's Conservatory Garden on the edge of East Harlem and 105th Street this weekend and noticed that some of the early blooming branches have started their annual display of colors. The huge Vanderbilt Gate (from one of the original mansions) greets locals and tourist alike in this formal garden setting that is unlike most of the natural-looking terrain of the famous park. The center photo shows the symmetrical arbor of cherry trees that will bloom in the coming weeks so nature watchers should take advantage of the spring display as it progresses. The Vanderbilt Gate is located at 5th Avenue and 105th Street. Take the 2,3 Train to 110th Street and walk east, then south. If you're coming from Broadway north of 110th Street, take the M4 bus, and get off at the Museum of the City of New York stop on Fifth Avenue at 104th Street. Read our past post to get more on the history of the Conservatory Garden and see the large green houses that actually existed on the site: LINK. All photos by Ulysses
