☞ DRINK: Bier International Making Progress

Since the representative of Bier International contacted us back in February, the word out on the street was that Harlem's first new beer garden would debut on the corner of West 113th Street by the time the World Cup games would start. Located at 2099 FDB/8th Avenue, the contemporary watering hole missed its spring opening because of time lapsed for infrastructure permits. Finally last month, the work seemed to have started up again and once more the viewing of the World Cup games was the end goal.

In the past couple of weeks, the interior has been encased in drywall and as of this weekend, the new facade doors and windows were installed (last photo). From the design images, the walls appear to be pretty bare except for some graffiti text and the main area will just consist of cafeteria style seating. This part of the space should be easy to fix up quickly. What is taking a bit of time is the right hand side of the space which has has been shuttered all along and appears to still have the old facade. Notice from the design sketch that this same right-hand room is were the bar and fancy wall light details will be installed so it actually is the most complicated (and more necessary) of the two rooms.

The workers have been speeding along so there might be hope just yet that this weekend could bring a big turnaround to the space. Read all about Bier International in our past post: LINK. The nearest subway to this location is the B,C at 110th or 116th Street. Current photo by Ulysses. www.bierinternational.com

  1. Great, a hole for drunks...I'm sure this will make the area better.

  2. Bring it on. Every new business is welcome. If it can attract customers, and fill one of the hundreds of empty storefronts, then great. I am tired of people complaining about new business, new people and new enterprise. Its not as if this business is pushing out another... there are hundreds of vacant lots and stores. Hell, I might even go have a drink there myself.

  3. Anon 1:44, Actually many of us can drink in moderation if that's the issue you seem to be having with it?

  4. As elsewhere, "drunks" will probably stick to brown-bagged imbibements from the bodega. For the rest of us, having a nice, local place to socialize and get a brew every now and then will not be a bad thing...

  5. i am looking forward to this establishment, but can we please stop referring to it as a "beer garden"? Unless there is a backyard space I'm not aware of, this is a bar with al fresco seating.

  6. "Beer Hall"? Even that is a bit of a stretch for the size. Hopefully their offerings are good.

  7. They are finally open, I have been and it is great. Great beer selection and the food is delicious. The menu suggests pairings too. This is not going to be a dive bar for drunks, it's a great place to meet friends and have a good chat over beers.
