☞ EAT: GlobeTrippin in Jeopardy of Closing

West Harlem does not have a lot better shops to offer but GlobeTrippin, the one great local coffeehouse and bookstore on Amsterdam (between 143rd and 144th) was always a favorite. We have now been informed that they too may be in jeopardy of closing soon. The next couple of weeks will be crucial for the proprietors to get the business together so everyone in Harlem (especially folks in Hamilton Heights) needs to come visit this charming, cozy eatery and bookstore. The recent letter sent out to the community states:

"Georgia, the owner, is now open for business from 8 am-8 pm Tuesday through Friday. She has a great Thai iced tea and a mint ginger lemonade. Plus, my daughters LOVED icing their own sugar cookies using several different colors of icing, sprinkles, and candy.

In addition to a great lunch-dinner special (her curry was excellent), we love all of the homemade dessert options (I regularly check for her lemon cupcakes) and her breakfast muffins. Her stock of literature and non-fiction---with a global/international focus--is currently 20-50% off."

GlobeTrippin is located on 1689 Amsterdam Avenue, between 143rd St and Hamilton Place. Tel.(917) 860-0237. Nearest subways are the 1 or A,B,C,D train at 145th Street. Photo by Ulysses. www.globetrippin.com

  2. I agree. Everything here is homemade and yummy. GlobeTrippin needs to stay in business. If you want charming little businesses like these to stay in Hamilton Heights (and the rest of Harlem), you have to put your money where your mouth is and patronize the shop!

Get your morning coffee or tea or mid-day/early evening snacks and treats here. Cookies, cupcakes, muffins you name it, she's got it!

Don't talk about it, Hamilton Heights, be about it!!!

  3. This place is amazing, and needs to stay in business !!! Everything is fresh and delicious. Georgia, the owner, creates fantastic home baked treats and pastry items, with a rotating selection of lunch or dinner specials. She caters, bakes desserts to order, has cookie painting for kids, and hosts cooking and book gatherings. Really, the community needs to rally and visit her shop because it is an incredible addition to the neighborhood.

  4. Walked by the other day on the weekend. They don't open until NOON on Saturday or Sunday. I'm sorry, but that's ridiculous.
