The word got out quickly last night that Bier International finally opened! As can be seen from the last photo, the afterwork crowd filled the communal tables by 9:00 PM and Harlem seems to have really embraced the new drinking hall. On tap is a lot of stuff that sound very German and the pilsner glasses are extremely tall. Folks should come before or after dinner since the menu of small plates has not been set up yet. Bier International is located at 2099 FDB/8th Avenue and 113th Street. The closest subways are the B,C at 110th or 116th Street. www.BierInternational.com
The fact that it was filled up the first night with little or no advance notice of its opening date is an example of the pent-up demand that exists for decent places to go in Harlem. Best of luck to them.ReplyDelete
Amen Uptown Girl!ReplyDelete
In this photo is appears rather characterless, sterile, lacking any sense of flavor or feel. Could they not put some art on the walls? Kind of looks like a blank canvass if you ask me....or like a college student union center. You know how when you walk into Dinosaur BBQ, it exudes it's own signature flavor and feel. I'm sure this place will be a smashing success since we're desperate in these parts, but gee would also be nice if the place had it's own signature sense of style and feel.ReplyDelete
I'm impressed -- I didn't make it yesterday but will definitely head over after work today...ReplyDelete
FDBHoney: Bier does appear to have its own sense of style, even if it's not the one you happen to prefer. Frankly I'm glad not every new bar goes with Dino BBQ-style kitsch -- it's not something that works just anywhere.
From the pics it looks rather sleek and cool to me. I rather like the interior, while I haven't been yet.ReplyDelete
I thought they were going for a minimalist Euro sort of feel, myself.ReplyDelete
Besides, the place is not 100% finished yet, I think.
A lot of potential here. Early days and it will start to find a vibe of it's own over time. Would be nice to eventually see outdoor seating of some kind. If things go well over the fall/winter period, maybe next Spring they will apply for an outdoor seating license. Not worth investing the $$$ for it now with a few weeks left of August.ReplyDelete
How were the prices?
@Chris. This ain't no Paris Blue.ReplyDelete
All over it! As a Harlem dweller for 15yrs & lover of International culture (and Beer!)I am pleased to see them meet only moments from my doorstep! Exciting...ReplyDelete
Stopped by the Bier Inter. yesterday (Sat.) afternoon. I was just out for a bike ride and rode right by it. Great Idea. But the interior needs something, anything. The best bars are warm and inviting. I've never felt the exposed spiral duct look very warm or inviting. I guess they're really, really trying to emphasize bier.ReplyDelete
Dropped in and got my pint(s) of London Pride. Good stuff. Bit steep at $7 a pop though!ReplyDelete
Maybe they should do a happy hour special?ReplyDelete
