☞ EAT: Bier International Brunch Service

Bier International promised a full menu by the Labor Day holiday and it now seems brunch will also be served this weekend + Monday. Price ranges are $7-$14 for main items including buttermilk pancakes, crab cakes benedict along with steak and eggs. This is probably the one new business on lower FDB/8th Avenue that actually has quite a following when the doors open at 4:00 PM. Walking by at 7:00 at night, the eatery is consistently filled so they do seem to have balanced the niche-versus-price issue to get the business up and going. Now all they need is to get that outdoor seating for this side of the year. Weekend brunch starts at noon for Bier International at 2099 FDB/8th Avenue (at 113th St.). Closest subways are the B,C at 110th and 116th Street.

  3. Yes, Chocolat really need to do something to get going zuni. Does anybody know what the residential building is next door? Whenever I walk by, there is a group of kids/young adults loitering and I'm pretty sure they come from the building next door. Last night they were heckling a couple of people going into the restaurant.

  5. @ zuni: And Chocolat will STAY empty too, until they get thier liquor license. At least then there'd be a reason to hang there after work or before whatever.

Their prices are higher than the norm for the neighborhood and they wonder why they are half empty all the damn time.

They need to bring out a happy hour deal.

  6. I would love for Chocolat to do well. Looking at the menu, there are some really interesting options on there. Getting people through the door though and building up that initial following isn't easy. Maybe they are banking on getting a lot of traffic when the Aloft Hotel opens.
