☞ REMEMBER: West 130th and 7th circa 1920
The archival photo from the early 1920's showing 7th Avenue at 130th Street provides some clues to what the streets originally looked like at this intersection. The notable features are the belgian stone paved avenue along with a very formal gated tree median. Most of the original buildings seem to still exist at this intersection and one can see the south end of the former Lafayette theater at the right. The corner section is the only part that remains unaltered today and the new church facade at the center half can be seen in the lower photo. On a side note, we've seen quite a few bikes in old Harlem photos but the low riding, three wheeler in the top photo is pretty unique. Check out the full view of the original Lafayette Theater in our past post: LINK. Archival photo courtesy of NYPL

Thank You
ReplyDeleteThese old photos are terrific, it is also so interesting to see individuals in these pics giving a sense of the life an earlier time in Harlem.
