☞ INTRODUCING: Church Building Back on Market
Early on this year it looks as if the former church building at 371-373 Manhattan Avenue and 115th Street would be converted into a mosque. Listed at $2.2 million, the building went into contract with the smaller mosque at FDB/8th Avenue and 116th Street which is only a block east of the church building. As of last Wednesday, the listing is now back on the market with a new price tag of $2 million. The buildings each are around 20 foot wide so the lot is pretty large and the block is around the corner from Morningside Park. This one isn't as architecturally significant as the surrounding townhouses but it at least keeps the scale of the neighborhood.

I think they just knocked two townhouses together and called it a church.
ReplyDeleteThere's more to this story, and I hope we can get it. It wasn't just going to be converted into a mosque -- it was going to house the mosque currently located on FDB between 115th and 116th -- which then presumably was to have freed that side of the block up for redevelopment.
ReplyDeleteIt would seem something fell through. But does that mean the mosque found alternative real estate? Or does it mean they're staying put?
Correction on the address: It's 371-373 Manhattan Ave. The buyer formerly in contract, a mosque, per the seller's attorney could not get a mortgage. With the air rights one can build an 8,000 sqft elevator building on the lot.
