☞ READ: Roommate Social to Arrive in Harlem

There's nothing like meeting someone in real life especially if they are going to be sharing your home.  The New York Times reports on a popular roommate social called Roommates Wanted NYC that has sprung up from folks who are just sick of not getting results from online listings.  Started by Dene Farrell and Jeff Orlick, the events have been on every second and third Sundays of each month at a selected bar and plays out like speed dating for roommate seekers: LINK

The Time's piece states that the events have been popular in Williamsburg, Prospect Heights, Astoria and the East Village, but what about Harlem?  Mr. Orlick actually contacted us a couple of weeks back with the following:

"Harlem is the number one place people are asking that we hold new events. Prospect Heights has been awesome so far, and it seems like there and Harlem are the newest hotbeds of people moving in. Pretty cool. Selfishly, I want to do events in Harlem so I can hang out there more..."

So what was the final spot selected?  After one look the iconic Lenox Lounge's Zebra Room, Mr. Orlick was smitten and has worked out details for the first Harlem event this coming Sunday, October 10th.  So if you have a room to rent out or seeking a roommate,  check out Lenox Lounge at 288 Malcolm X/Lenox Avenue and 124th Street from 2:00 PM-4:00 PM this weekend.  The closest subway is the 2,3 express which basically is half a block away from this location. Suggested donation at door is $5.00.  Get more information on the RoommatesWantedNYC site: www.RoommatesWantedNYC.com

  1. What a great idea ... I think you're going to see more and more young folks flocking to Harlem. Nobody ever mentions this, but the city now is really cracking down on fake walls. When I moved to the city 12 years ago, everybody I knew divided up 1 bedroom apartments with fake walls. That's much harder to do now so I think more young people and recent grads are going to look to places like Harlem where they can get a 2 bedroom for the cost of a 1 bedroom farther South.

  2. We had a pretty good mix of people at Lenox last week. Strangely enough, about 1/3 of the people came during the last half hour - what the???

but yeah, we Love Harlem. If you have an apartment for rent, this is the best way to screen lots of applicants.
