☞ SEE: The 1280 Fifth Avenue Preview Party

The Read Deal got a look inside the starchitect designed 1280 Fifth Avenue last night at a private party for potential buyers and real estate professionals. According to the brokers on site, 5 of the 116 units have sold and 6 are currently in negotiations.  The East Harlem building at the corner of Central Park North is also the future home to the Museum for African Art and will be a true test of the luxury market uptown with average prices around $1,344 per square foot: LINK.  Check out the Read Deal article for more photos: LINK

  1. HB referring to this as "The East Harlem building" would meet strong objection with BHS. In glancing at the website www.1280fifth.com, I don't believe the word "Harlem" can be found. Gee, I wonder why that is? And in seeing the listing of nearby schools, seems they've simply excluded listing the public and charter schools and only listed the tony private schools, even if they are far away as West 91st. Gee I wonder why that is?

A very fine private school that's been featured in Forbes Magazine (http://www.forbes.com/forbes/2009/0216/070.html) is Harlem Academy located at 1330 Fifth Avenue. How does racism work? It works when 1280 Fifth Ave will include a school on West 91st street in their listing, while excluding Harlem Academy which is literally a stones' throw up the block.

Gotta love BHS, ever take a look of their geographic map of Manhattan? They choose to recognize the UES, & UWS as both going clear up to the top of Manhattan, while choosing to not place the word "Harlem" on the map where it should clearly be, take a look yourself

I am sure all this is perfectly explainable without it speaking to the institutional "anti-Harlem" racism that's been historically practiced by the real estate industry....riiiight?....of course.

  2. I was invited to the Reception and was treated to a tour of what will be a wonderful addition to our Community - which will include a performance space and full restaurant done by Spoonbread (they catered the event - it was wonderful). Lots of locals were there - all looking forward to their opening next Fall.

  3. I'm sorry to say that I'm not following this thread...this was a Reception for the Museum for African Art. It is still a construction site but the Director and her Staff were there to answer questions about the Museum and show us around. There are also apartments for sale above. They were open for anyone wishing to see them - but the evening was about the Museum for African Art showing it's stuff - and great stuff it will have!
