☞ SEE: St. Francis Blessing of the Animals

After hearing about the event all these years, we finally made it over to St. John the Divine for the annual St. Francis day Blessing of the Animals event. The congregation arrived at 11:00 AM and had their pets blessed before the menagerie of other exotic creatures large and small paraded by at 1:00 PM.  The press swarmed the grand entrance of one of the largest cathedrals in the world to get a glimpse of camels, lamas, pigs, turkeys, goats, tortoise and other creatures arriving for the procession. Afterwards, the crowd went over to the church gardens to get public blessings of their pets. More photos will be posted on the Harlem Bespoke Facebook site later in the day.

  3. Gotta love the pig. I’m also rather taken with the ostrich.

That’s Bishop Mark Sisk in the gold with the mitre and the staff. Bishop of the Diocese of New York.
