☞ EAT: Cheap Eats at Melba's
There's another fifty percent discount out on one of the popular dining sites and this time South Harlem's Melba's at FDB/8th Avenue and 114th is up for the deal. We had a post up on Settepani last week and over 400 tickets were bought. Support this local business and save some change at the same time but sign up quickly since the offer is only for one day: LINK

This seems like a very smart promotional move.
ReplyDeleteIf they could just send a one horse open sleigh and a St. Bernard with a fully loaded cask I’d sign up in a heartbeat.
Everything about this place is great, except... the food is completely inedible. Way, way too much salt. I've been there a couple of times hoping that it was just an off nite, or an off dish. No such luck. The second visit I sent back the dish, and they offered to have me select a completely different item, which I did, and which was also too salty. I'm not some sensitive salt hater. I love salt, but seriously, the menu (or chef) needs to reconsider...
ReplyDeleteIn a community where hypertension runs rampant that’s a serious problem.
ReplyDeleteI completely disagree with Darlene's assessment of Melba's food. It's no more salty than any other comfort food establishment. In fact, I was among the first to try Red Rooster (which is excellent, BTW) and noticed no substantive difference in salt on the palette. I find Melba's food to be well prepared each and every time I go. It's been one of my favorite uptown restaurants since I moved here several years ago.
ReplyDeleteI was just there last week with 3 women who had never been there before & they raved about their dinners - 1 had fish & 2 had fried chicken. I like plain food & enjoy their grilled chicken, garlic mashed & spinich. BTW, 2 of those women were in Harlem a few weeks ago & tried to get into Melba's but the wait was too long. It's packed mostly every night. Darlene, get a Groupon & try again.
