☞ INTRODUCING: Prince Rocks for Harlem
The artist currently known as Prince graciously announced yesterday that a donation of $1 million will be made to the Harlem's Children Zone. We couldn't make it to the press conference in midtown but it appears that photos weren't allowed during the event so the above images were sent over from the sold out first leg of the "Welcome to America Tour" at Madison Square garden. At the press conference, 30 students of the Harlem Children’s Zone joined the seven-time Grammy award winners as he also announced donating $250,000 lines of credit to the Uptown Dance Academy and the American Ballet Theatre.
“A function of our love for the next generation is instilling in them our own hard-fought knowledge,” said Prince. “We can't wait and see—or only hope for—the future of those coming after us. We must actively take responsibility for ensuring their success.”
Let's also hope this starts a precedent for those in the entertainment industry to give back to more local educational institutions going forward. There's a quick description of the press conference and after party in today's NY Post: LINK.
