☞ ARCHITECTURE: Windows at 148 West 121st
The renovations at 148 West 121st Street has been going on for about a year now and the parlour floor recently had the larger window installed at the lower level. Most of the top floor windows were already in when the scaffolding went down back in January but what is now apparent with this final glass addition is that the owner spent a little extra on the distinct casement windows. Most of the houses even in the historic districts have the standard double-hung window but multi-panel casements were pretty much the norm for many brownstones a century ago. This particular townhouse restoration is not even in an officially landmark area so the homeowner must just really be into details.

Not sure, but those windows could be less expensive than double hungs since the panes are smaller. The window openings are so big in many brownstones that you have to get much more expensive "architectural" windows. Our front parlor window is nearly 4'x8' and the rear parlor window is about 3'x9'. What I don't understand about the windows is that if the owner had gone by historic preservation standards they could have gotten huge tax credits that would have paid for more expensive windows.
