☞ INTRODUCING: The East Harlem MEC Housing
The first part of the East Harlem Media Entertainment and Cultural center will be fully completed by September and the facade has had its reveal in the past couple of weeks. All the scaffolding has been dismantled and a multi-color brick facade in an otherwise basic building has emerged. This empty lot-to-housing at the south side of East 125th and Third Avenue is a less controversial element of the East Harlem MEC which has used Eminent Domain on the businesses at the north side of the street. According to the signs up at the ground level, this 8 story building will have a total of 49 affordable units altogether but Parcel C doesn't seem to have a name to it quite yet. Check out our past post to see the dramatic north side plans that will transform this section of East 125th Street: LINK

The multicolored facade is unattractive. However, this beats the heck out of the former gravel parking lot that sat there. A positive addition to the neighborhood. I eagerly await the start of the larger phase on the other side of 125th Street (hopefully with a better aesthetic profile).
ReplyDeleteWe have been just informed that Parcel C will be called 200 East 125th Street and that the signs will be changed soon with the said address.
