☞ REVIVE: 240 Manhattan Avenue
One of the four matching prewar buildings at the south corner of Morningside Park was demolished back in 2008 and the empty lot that sits at the corner of 110th Street might now be getting a new building this year. The lower photo taken yesterday shows what's going on behind the plywood and one can see that the excavation equipment has arrived recently. We check the DOB site for permits and it looks like the mechanical work was approved to proceed on the lot back in January of last year but nothing has happened until now. So what's going up on this particularly prime spot with pristine park views? Actually, it looks like a one-story, 3,951 square foot commercial building has been planned for the former residential lot, so nothing really dramatic is arriving. Nevertheless, that corner was such an eyesore in an otherwise pretty choice corner of the park.

Nice to hear something is finally happening here. Quite surprising that it's only one-story. Wonder what's up with that? As you point out this is a prime spot. They'll have a great farmers market just across the way :-)
ReplyDeleteThat's an incredible spot.
ReplyDeleteBut seriously -- one story? How could that be possibly even be economically rational, much less the "right use" for the space? Who is the developer?
