☞ READ: Harlem's Best Picnic Spot
New York Magazine had a pick of best places to picnic in the city and the West Harlem Piers made the list this year but not many folks really utilize this green space. Since it opened in 2009, the pier part of the park has been a haven for fishermen and only gets really busy during the weekends (especially during the hot summer season). In the past year, a few sunbathers have discovered the pristine green patches of lawn but for the most part, the park over past Twelfth Avenue and 125th Street is one of the best kept secrets uptown. Fairway is right next door so folks can just pick up any refreshments there for the day out and that is probably why the waterfront park is considered ideal for an alfresco outing. Just take the BX15 bus all the way to the last stop and walk one block over or the 1 train to 125th Street. More in New York magazine: LINK
