☞ REMEMBER: Bright Lights Return to Harlem
After seeing a decade of storefronts going up in Harlem that have a certain 1980s or 1990s aesthetic to them, it is refreshing to see some of the new businesses that have debuted in the past year come up with something a little more downtown. Eateries with a certain vintage, early 20th century look have been popular for quite some time in lower Manhattan and Brooklyn so the above establishments have really launched the trend uptown. The Red Rooster opened up to a lot of fanfare in the past year and has definitely had an effect on what the new Harlem eating establishments are all about. Following close behind with their own bulb-lit sign is Les Ambassades' second branch and then the yet-to-be-open Harlem tavern makes it three in a row. Well done indeed.

I am happy o see this signage as it maintains Harlem’s unique character apart from other Manhattan neighborhoods, and a shout out should go to the grandmother of Harlem signage in lights, Sylvias.
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I passed Ambassades last night on the way to look into Pioneer. It seemed a tad pricey for what it is, but I sure was glad to have it on the block. We are going to test the bruch there this weekend.
ReplyDeletePioneer is awfully nice to have; the hulking security guys in front are a little disturbing, but, I suppose, necessary.
