A reader sent in a photo of the forthcoming second location of Planet Fitness in Harlem yesterday and it appears that the chain of cost-friendly gyms has been doing well uptown. The first one opened up on Lenox and 126th Street a few years back (top photo) and the new location will debut on Harlem's main retail strip. Photo after the jump.
The second location will be arriving at 125th Street and ACP/7th Avenue sometimes in the near future as the current photo shows. There used to be some sort of retail space on the second floor that appeared to have been closed for quite some time so this new branch of the gym should bring more life to this corner of the thoroughfare. New York Sports Club has several gyms in Harlem and is good moderately priced establishment but Planet Fitness is even more affordable and therefore a good fit for expanding throughout the neighborhood. The grand opening membership sale apparently is scheduled for July 5th: LINK
Love Planet Fitness. I said to myself after joining "why did I pay $80 a month for NYSC all those years?"
ReplyDeleteNice to see -- but the two will be very close to one another. I wonder what they consider to be the advantage?
ReplyDeleteThis place is fantastic. Bob, the one on Lenox is constantly packed, especially during peak hours. Granted, they will be fairly close together, but I think they have enough customers to warrant the new location.
ReplyDelete@Bob:
ReplyDeleteThere have been complaints of overcrowding at the Lenox PF.
After this place gets built there should be enough space for everybody who is currently a member and new members as well.
This will be good for after hours foot traffic too.
I still say we could really use a gym down on lower FDB (or 110th Street).
ReplyDeleteHow about 145th Street??? We always get ignored up here. Yes, I know there's a NYSC but it's way too expensive.
