☞ REVIVE: Engaging the Community at Hunter
The Wall Street Journal has an interesting article on the new $137 million Hunter College building at Third Avenue and East 119th Street which apparently solves the problem of new institutions integrating with local communities. Architects of the project point out that the expanses of glass on the building and generous lobby of the Siberman School of Social work engages the local community by inviting the passerby to see what's going on inside. This is definitely better than being all brick but does glass really make a difference? We kind of thought the cultural centers and storefronts that many new Harlem building have incorporated works a little better with bringing in the general public. More design talk can be found in the WSJ article: LINK
