☞ ARCHITECTURE: Diamond Plate Takes Over
Stainless steel diamond plate or tread plate has been popping up on bodega's and small eateries all over uptown and it really is becoming quite a trend. The curious facade finish is peculiar because the tread plate usually finds itself on cellar doors or ground surfaces that folks walk on. Somehow the textured metal surface has now been chosen by a few local establishments for its perceived modern appeal. Durable man manufactured surfaces such as vinyl siding have been popular for many decades and diamond plate appear to be this current century's answer for a quick facade fix. We actually prefer the quilted stainless steel that has an Art Deco appeal and can be found on food trucks or shops in East Harlem: LINK

Yeah,
ReplyDeleteI am with you guys, I prefer the quilted..The others look a little "unfinished"..
There was a glass installer’s truck on my block the other day proclaiming it installed “Bullet Proof Shopwindow Glass”. Well, I thought to myself, to-the-point-advertising!
ReplyDeleteI you look carefully at the picture, you will notice that this storage is in front of the old "West Side Cleaners" and taking up sidewalk space. The real question is what type of activity is going on in the old cleaner's space, since this food vender has no indoor space???
ReplyDeleteooops... Please disregard my last comment, just noticed that the 2 pictures are in different locations.
