☞ REMEMBER: East 116th Street circa 1885

Most of the north side of 116th Street between Park and Lexington Avenue consists of prewar tenements lining the block but a photo from 1885 shows that a section of this area of east Harlem had a few townhouses.  If this photo was taken closer to the corner of Lexington, then an Associated supermarket sits on this site today. The extra wide house in the center looks to be one of the more impressive ones in the neighborhood at the time but no signs of this building exists today.

  1. I hope that middle building was a single family home. Livin’ large.
