The press for the new lounge under the Red Rooster is out and photos of the interior have been released via New York magazine's Grub Street. As surmised previously, the entire speakeasy concept of the Prohibition Era has now been updated to a glamorous mid century modern lounge that is definitely more Dream Girls rather than Rag Time. This style of decor also has a lot of Scandinavian design elements of that period so it would make sense that Chef Samuelsson would have an affinity towards this aesthetic. Nevertheless, Ginny's Supper Club looks like an updated option for diners uptown and should help ease some congestion upstairs at 310 Lenox Avenue. I had the opportunity to drop in to Rooster's for some dessert after stopping by the Lenox Social. I inquired about Ginny's. Fridays and Saturdays they'll have DJ's. They'll have jazz Sunday nights and Latin music bands on Mondays. Really looking forward to it! Hopefully I can put those Salsa classes to good use. Btw, Rooster's sweet potato donuts and their rooster cheesecake w lemon sherbert and lingonberries are AWESOME!
ReplyDeleteThose photos are so well lit it doesn't quite do the ambiance justice. It is like stepping back in time going down there.
ReplyDeleteI have to check this space out, from comments it seems Marcus Samuelsson has created another special space. I am pleased to see a recreation of the older Harlem, adding more unique Harlem character to upper Lenox. It seems his talent goes beyond the kitchen, maybe that talent could be applied to breath new life into the Lenox Lounge. Love the wooden chairs.
ReplyDeleteI was in the "basement" and it is very nice good crowd and people were very chilled out. I will be heading there more often.
