Franco the Great of 125th Street has a feature in today's Daily News which reports on the local efforts to preserve the many murals of the prolific artist. Franco Gaskin has painted over 400 murals on the roll down gates of 125th Street shops in the past 35 years but new development and regulations will eventually do away with them in the upcoming years. The plan now is to save the 25 remaining murals by establishing an open air museum further east on 125th Street at the Triboro Plaza. So glad to see that a group has been formed & they are moving forward with a new home for the Gates. Franco had a solo show recently at The State Office Building exhibiting his portrait work! I had no idea he was such a diverse artist. I hope you will post contact info for the Save The Gates group when they have that information.
