An old photo from 1895 provides a glimpse of a tea social that involved the popular new sports activity of the day. A group portrait taken just north of the Claremont Hotel by Riverside Drive shows a group of gentlemen and young women ready to drive up around Harlem West Side were the river views were most probably unobstructed back in the day. Nowadays, the Claremont Hotel is no longer around and cycling on part of Riverside Drive does not seem to have the same allure since automobiles mainly dominate the road.
