☞ EAT: Brunch at the Corner Social
The Corner Social had a chicken and pancake brunch special we had to check out this weekend and it turns out one Hollywood celebrity was also hanging out at the eatery on Lenox at West 126th Street. A downtown friend came up to join us this past weekend and the Red Rooster was packed as usual so we decided to check out the chicken over at Corner Social. While waiting for outside seating, my guest pointed out that actor Woody Harrelson just road up on a bicycle and sat down out front. Our hostess explained that he had friends in the neighborhood and was often seen hanging out in Central Harlem. Mr. Harrelson appeared down to earth and even posed for a photo with one couple sitting close by. The-actor-turned-director also had flyers for his new Broadway play which he was passing out to guests: LINK
As far as the fried chicken and pancakes were concerned, there was a bit of surprise all around. The Corner Social takes a twist on the classic waffle theme by having huge portions of thick, fluffy pancakes with blueberry butter. This was a success and the thick cakes were definitely a highlight of the afternoon. The chicken was all white meat and boneless so purist might not be so much into this one. With most boneless white meat plates, it is hard to get the moisture perfect so the chicken was a little on the dry side but the coating was crisp and well seasoned. Anyways, its worth a try for those into southern cooking and one might just notice a certain actor milling about during the course of the meal.

Thanks for another great restaurant review, upper Lenox restaurant row is now a real hot spot thanks to Marcus Samuelsson redefining this part of Central Harlem that sat decaying for so long.
ReplyDeleteThe owner of Corner Social should give lessons on how to open and run a neighborhood bar/restaurant. We love this instant hangout.
ReplyDeleteWhat are they doing right?
ReplyDeleteand how is it different then what others do wrong?
