☞ SHOP: Basement Pizza Retains Old Sign
About a year ago, the old building which housed Basement Pizza went under renovation over on West 125th at Amsterdam and we wondered if the cafe renovation would incorporate the retro signage. For the past couple of months, a new logo appeared that announced the arrival of Mario's Pizza with cartoon characters of the popular video game as the main attraction. Walking by the space in the past week, we noticed that the old sign is now back up and the establishment is now going for a somewhat more classic look. It looks to still be a drop ceiling and fluorescent light type of place but at least the cartoon characters went away.

A new gesture style steaming cup of coffee sign is great, but where do I find my coffee? Happy to see the old sign and the face lift to the building, but why is the new design work competing with the old work instead of complimenting each other?
