☞ REMEMBER: 119th and 7th Avenue c. 1905

An old photo from 1905 shows what was then a brand new building on the corner of 7th Avenue and 119th Street.  In contrast to the lower photo, one can see that the lost cornice and balustrade detail at the top part of the building really detracts from the grandeur of the original design.  Apparently there were also rather tall trees growing on this part of today's Adam Clayton Powell Boulevard that were eventually cut down at some point in time.

  1. Would love to start an architectural foundation in Harlem (and around the city) to replace the detailed cornices that were removed from these beautiful buildings in the past. Sure makes a difference.

  4. Harlem residents should remember that they can request new trees to be planted in the neighborhood. Several of my requests have resulted in new trees over the past 2 years. Just fill out the online form at http://gis.nyc.gov/parks/forms/search.jsp
Best to request by address (not asking for a whole street to be planted).
