☞ REMEMBER: Harlem in Color circa 1939
A Bespoke reader mentioned that Gawker recently posted this rare film from 1939 showing various New York neighborhoods in full color. The Harlem segment starts 49 second into the film right after the Chinatown portion and folks can get a rare glimpse of uptown's bustling streets when there was over 100,000 more residents and the streets were filled with shops. Pina Coladas were also apparently only 5 cents so the times have definitely changed. Harlem's population is finally increasing in population after several decades of loss and many of the once vacant shops are now opening with new businesses once more.
