We have not tried the grilled octopus tacos at The Grange pub in Hamilton Heights until recently and had to give the chef a proper shout out. What we like about the new startup restaurants of West Harlem such as Harlem Public or The Grange is that they are truly New American in their offerings. This is basically taking the multi cultural heritage of the city and coming up with something fresh and modern. Tacos are a standard in Mexican cuisine but grilled octopus is usually found in Mediterranean or Asian fare.
As far as The Grange's tacos go, we almost thought they mixed up our order with super tender chicken when we had the first bite. This was indeed octopus but tenderized to a point that most folks will forget the rubbery texture that usually associated with this particular ocean offering.
