Stickball on St. Nicholas, Ida Wyman circa 1950, Courtesy Catherine Couturie Gallery
Photographer Ida Wyman took photos of New York City mainly in the 1940s but we guess this image was taken around 1950 since it is in full color. When we first looked at the this photo of a stickball game on St. Nicholas Avenue, we noticed the strikingly curved building which gives the location away as the corner of 116th Street. One can see the former Regent Theater to the right of the photo which is now a church. The block still looks exactly the same today and the bakery called Make My Cake is currently at the aforementioned storefront. A better view of the curvilinear building can be found in our past post: LINK
