☞ REMEMBER: The Original MJM Gates

A photo from 1910 shows the original stone walls and decorative gateway at the Morris Jumel Mansion up by 160th Street.  We would conclude that the entrance deteriorated at some point and that the low walls did not do anything to provide security for Manhattan's oldest house so the cast iron replacement probably was a better replacement.  Nevertheless, the original portal was definitely a bit more interesting than the ubiquitous decorative iron that would be found throughout the city in the early part of the 20th century.
