INTRODUCING: CHERI DEBUTS ON LENOX

The opening has been delay a couple of months but the table d'hôte restaurant called Cheri has finally made its debut in the Mount Morris Park Historic District.  We had a preview last night and the concept restaurant is basically the feel of a chic Parisienne apartment in which the host serves a select menu every night to the guest.  There's a bit of good 90s aesthetics here and even an enclosed back yard with heat lamps.  We will have a dining review tomorrow but folks can check out some of the designer details after the jump.

What is extraordinary at the new spot by 121st Street is a new Harlem aesthetic that is very contemporary, French and has a little mix of Phillip Stark all within an eclectic brownstone garden floor.  Art is decorated all throughout the restaurant and Chef Alain Eoche adds Gallic homages such as the iconic designer murals in the bathrooms.  Out back, one will find a fully enclosed garden area for dining which is something not found often uptown and especially not at this scale.  We are definitely not into 90s lounge aesthetic but do remember the chic nostalgia that Cheri brings to the table and this definitely is one of the more unique spaces we have been to in some time.  Dinner and weekend brunch service are now available so folks should drop by if they want to experience this charming new destination that is like a trip to a contemporary flat in Le Marais.  Reservations can be made at:  212.662.4374

  3. For sure this isn't my grandparents Harlem anymore.

  4. That just depends on how old your grandparents are.

  5. Interesting decor - love the garden and plates. The early 90s theme is working for charlie bird. It is a large place for a table d'hote format - most of those places are tiny because it is hard to be a regular at these types of places. Food needs to very good for this to work - but if it is people will come. Love the piano too.

  6. Better than nothing, but I agree that Harlem needs more moderate places; maybe good, basic Thai food, or Italian. How about a Greek restaurant in Harlem? Or a good Chinese or Vietnamese restaurant.

  7. Completely unique, if they can deliver on quality this may be outstanding.

  8. Agreed, Harlem could use a good old fashioned NY diner (M&G was great and sadly missed).

  10. Okay guys, we do frequently write articles on what is lacking in the neighborhood so lets focus on what the post is about.

  11. Just so strange that every place that opens in Harlem is trying to invent the wheel.

  12. Not really. Most of the places try to do some sort of soul or new African cuisine and the interior is usually 90s lounge which seems to be the trend for the majority uptown but not really current for what's going on city wide. We like this version because of the eclectic nature and focus on pretty decent art.
