REVIVE: PS186 NOW READY FOR RESTORATION

It has been literally decades in coming, but Curbed reports that PS186 will finally be restored for residential housing and a community spaced based on permits filed in the past couple of weeks.  We have been noticing the cleanup of the local landmark in West Harlem as of recent and most of the trees have been cleared around the top levels and the entrance.  A sidewalk shed has also come down when we passed by last week opening up a view that reveals some graffiti in main courtyard.

Permits filed online now for Number 523-525 West 145th Street located between Broadway and Amsterdam show that there will be 81 proposed units altogether which will also be considered affordable housing from what we have read in the past.  This should not be confused with low-income housing of which the city has stopped sponsoring for quite some time.  PS186 has been empty for over a quarter of century and when all is finished, it will look something like this:  LINK

  2. 80 apartments as well as Boy & Girls club -- that would be amazing!

  3. Condos? Rental? Regardless, it's great news for a gorgeous building and neighborhood long overlooked.

  5. No market rate apartments. Only low and very low income studios, 1 and 2 bedrooms. That's why it took so long to get the money together. Remains to be seen if the building is sustainable.

  6. How has Assembly Member Denny Farrell walked by this for 35 years? And not advocated to do anything? How is the boys club allowed to still hold the lease while they let the place rot?

  7. A wonderful re-shine of a gem. Being next to another, the public library, then homes...a fabulous outcome for everyone.
