REMEMBER: CORNER OF LENOX & 126TH CIRCA 1987

UDATED: A TIP CAME IN ABOUT THE MALCOLM X SIGN WHICH GIVES MORE OF A CLUE ON THE DATE OF THE PHOTO.
An uncredited photo was just sent to our inbox that shows an uptown block in a tougher decade and we assume this was taken in Central Harlem around 1987 or so.  The cars are definitely from the 70s but folks should remember that that the new models would not be flooding the streets of Harlem at this point in time.  As a Facebook reader pointed out, Lenox Avenue did not have the honorific of Malcolm X until 1987 so this might even be closer to 1990.  We took a current photo today at 126th and Lenox to show the dramatic change that Harlem has gone through in the past thirty years.

  1. Lenox Avenue was not co- named Malcolm X Blvd until 1987... and looking at the style of dress, this looks like late 80's... I remember working in Harlem and going to Sylvia's for breakfast , in the late 80's and early 90's as well

  2. That's my corner. I'm glad I live there now rather than then.

  4. Good to see the quality masonry work of the building over the Corner Social has survived, also, I never knew there was a hotel on 126th. Much has changed and much has survived.
