READ: $95M SECURED FOR HARLEM WHOLE FOODS

The new construction site that broke ground almost 8 months ago 100 West 125th Street still looks like a large pit of dirt but that might just change very quickly since the a new loan for $95 million has just been secured for the commercial building which will have Whole Foods as the anchor tenant.  An article in the Commercial Observer reports that the transaction closed on July 11th and that the new property will also have an Olive Garden alongside American Eagle.  When all is finished sometimes in 2015, there will be a total of 200,000 square-foot of commercial space and 6-stories all together in the new structure at the corner of Lenox Avenue: LINK

  1. Nice to hear that this is moving along. I was starting to worry that they had hit a stumbling block along the way.

  2. I know this will never reach the top of anyone's Official Worries list, but really, an Olive Garden? Is this a cruel joke? Let's list the new/soon 125 restaurants: Applebee's, Red Lobster, Joe's Crab Shack, Perkins' (!!), and now Olive Garden? Thank goodness there are great independent options all around. I just don't get it. As if everyone in Harlem, or traveling to Harlem, is pining for the selection of mediocre eats you can find on any suburban stretch of retail.

    1. Trust me..many of those tourists who come to Harlem are not eating at all of those high priced independent places you speak of

    2. Harlem is a mixed income community. I don't know if any tourists are eating at Applebee's or Perkins, but locals certainly are. And I think it's totally appropriate to have a range of choices - it signals that this community is open to people of all backgrounds, income levels, and preferences.
