REMEMBER: AN AERIAL STREET VIEW CIRCA 1925
Who can guess this street view looking west from 1925? Old cars and even a carriage horse can be seen in the hilly foreground because of an easily taken ariel view at this vantage point. In the far distance, there is also another clue for those familiar with Harlem geography. Finally, the street had a different name back then but eventually would be renamed in later decades. An updated photo will be posted early tomorrow.
UPDATE: The top photo was taken from 125th Street Station on Broadway looking west at 127th Street which is today known as Tiemann Place. This is probably the only side street facing the Hudson that has hill going upwards in the neighborhood. There are also a couple of cornices missing, a lot of large trees and no horizontal street parking in the modern photo.

ReplyDeleteTiemann Place
ReplyDeleteThis looks like Tiemann Place between Broadway and Claremont Avenue. The far distance is Riverside Drive. This photo was probably shot from the elevated subway station at 125th St. on the Broadway IRT line.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Damon NYC
ReplyDeleteDamon is spot on!
ReplyDeleteOooo, look at all that parking! Must have been nice back then. Looks around 1925-30
