SHOP: ACTIVITY AT 3609 BROADWAY
UPDATE: A TIP ON FACEBOOK MENTIONS THAT THIS WILL BE A CHASE BANK. Bespoke tips have been coming in on activity at 3609 Broadway on the corner of 149th Street but what is actually going on here? New Plywood has been setup around the substantial shop in the past week or so and permits reveal a major renovation job at hand. Apparently over $200K will be invested into constructing a new storefront and renovating the entire interior. With that amount of capital being spent, one would assume a serious business is sure to come along. Does anyone have any idea of what is arriving here?

Wasn't a second Covo opening up over here?
ReplyDeleteAccording to the Chase website it is indeed a new branch with an estimated opening of November 29th.
ReplyDeleteThis is the same situation at the southwest corner of 136th Street and Broadway. Chase bank setting up as well. Sucks because I thought we were finally getting a cafe on that corner. Guess I should be grateful its not another deli or sneaker shop
ReplyDeleteI guess there has to be a Chase every ten blocks in 21st century Manhattan? Can another Duane Reade be far behind?
ReplyDeleteI agree with the above with one caveat, yes it sucks but chase or another bank gives the street and area just an extra level of security. i think corner real estate on broadway will most likely go the way of banks and DR etc...in saying that I also think upper manhattan is really booming with indie restaurants and cafes and even though i would prefer a cafe, i can stomach a bank on a corner...
ReplyDeleteI was wishing for another barbershop...
ReplyDeleteUnlike further downtown which is saturated, new bank openings are a great sign of prosperity. There is still plenty of retail for cafes and other cool uses. All is good!
ReplyDeleteI dunno, there is already a Chase at 144 and Broadway. I'd have at least preferred another bank (like an HSBC to replace the one that closed on 139).
