LISTEN: JAZZ AT AMERICAN LEGION POST 398
We had a chance to drop by one of Harlem's classic spots to grab a drink, get some good home cooking and listen to great jazz. American Legion Post 398 has been around for over 52 years and the veteran soldiers host live music performances every night of the week except Mondays. Doors open at 6:00PM, guests sign in at the front and either sit at the bar or choose one of the many tables at the unassuming space that never has a cover charge. There is even substantial outdoor seating in the back but is a little away from the main action inside. Post 398 almost feels like going over to a relative's rec room but there is always great live jazz playing around in the background. Wednesday nights are famous for the fish fry on the menu and Sundays feature the notable Seleno Clarke who has been entertaining at the post for over 13 years. Post 398 is located at Number 248 West 132nd Street between 7th and 8th Avenue on the south side of the street. Just walk on in during the evening hours!

The vocalists at this spot are superb. Can't figure out why none of them has ever recorded. There's an older gentleman who has a voice just as melifluous as that of Joe Williams.
