REMEMBER: A NEW NEIGHBORHOOD CIRCA 1924
An archival photo shows a corner of Harlem in the early 20th century just starting to be built upon. A church sits at center and a handful of buildings can be seen to the left. One major clue is a structure on top of the hill just to the right of the house of worship. Who can guess the location and vantage point?
ANSWER: This section of 138th and Edgecombe looking south has gone through a lot of changes in the 1920s. Large apartment buildings were built on the north side of the block and the house seen just a block south somehow disappeared. Now there is a small park and the subway entrance at that particular intersection.
