REVIVE: COPPER AT THE CORN EXCHANGE

The lower floors of the Corn Exchange building on East 125th Street by Park Avenue have now fully been bricked and some of the metal elements have been installed within the past week.  As one of Harlem's unique individual city landmarks, the developer had to make sure everything matched up to replicate the aesthetic of the of the original design.  The large oriel bay windows are some of the distinct details of this Queen Anne and Romanesque mash up of architectural styles and were last seen in a green patina.

Since copper takes some time to tarnish, we might just have a situation here where the finished structure might just have a warm metallic glow for a year or so if a green patina is not added on.  Next up is to finish the brick on the dormer windows at top along with few chimney stacks before adding on the slate shingles to the roof.  Usually the cornices come at the end so we probably will not see those addition until the new year.  Check out our past post for final renderings of this historic site: LINK
