REMEMBER: A THEATER ON 110TH CIRCA 1938

A photo from 1938 shows a latino theater somewhere on 110th Street.  Who can guess the vantage point of this cinema that was demolished by the mid century along with many of the buildings on the right hand?  An updated view of the current site will be posted later on in the day.

ANSWER:  The lower photo shows the corner of Fifth Avenue today at Frawley Circle.  As can be seen to the left, there is a gated lot where the theater used to be and public house can be seen to the right. The original photo is from Cinema Treasures which has more information on the lost movie house called Teatro Latino: LINK

  1. West side of Fifth Avenue looking uptown? Love seeing the old two way traffic on these avenues.

  2. Is this East 110th St & 2nd Avenue looking North? or perhaps 110th & Lexington Ave looking north?

  3. OK, sorry but I'm obsessed by this photo cause its a challenge. This is my last posted comment! Its perhaps 110th & 5th Ave. I do remember that both 5th Avenue and Madison Avenue were "two-way" thoroughfares up until about 1970. They became one way due to all the robberies in the silk stocking district at that time

  5. so much great architecture survives uptown.

Sadly , this is one where the old Vista was much better.

A grand boulevard of mid rise apartment houses ending with a great theater and marquee.

  6. It looked pretty nice back in the day. Now, unfortunately, that stretch is overrun by a fortress of projects.
