REVIVE: THE MOUNT MORRIS PARK WEST TOWNHOUSE

The New York magazine annual design issue has featured the grand Mount Morris Park West townhouse that notable novelist Daryl Pinkney and his partner James Fenton purchased a few years back.  Those familiar with the address might remember that the abandoned building was a former synagogue but was originally built for one of the founders of Arm & Hammer over a century ago.  When the relatives of the baking soda tycoon's family found out about the new owners, they offered up an album of all of the original photos of the interior and thus a grand restoration went under way.  Although the layout was chopped upped as an SRO, most of the original details were still intact and the duo did not gut renovate but restored everything to its original glory.  More photos and details in New York magazine: LINK

  1. I had the privilege of seeing two floors of this house during this summer's Mount Morris Park House Tour and it was incredible. They have a lot of work to do to complete the renovation, but the house was impressive.
