Energy efficient passive buildings are a new thing for Manhattan and the first one to be planned for the island broke ground back in March and it looks like some major progress is at hand now. We also got a glimpse of the green building this week when the decidedly modern designs were revealed on the site.
Number 542 West 153rd Street was a huge empty lot facing Trintity Cemetery just east of Broadway and is now at 4 levels all together. There will be 7 total floors when all is complete and this new structure will definitely add some light on this block with its bright facade and irregular geometric window designs. We like this concept over all for the ambitious energy efficient aspect and also the architecture which is a bit more thought out than the bland square boxes that usually come about on these empty lots.
