REMEMBER: A HARLEM INTERSECTION CIRCA 1941


Who can guess this architectural intersection from a photo taken circa 1941?  All of the buildings are still in place today and there are some unique design elements that make this corner of Harlem pretty identifiable.  The answer will be posted later on with an updated photo.

ANSWER:  The view here is looking west towards 7th Avenue at 116th Street by the junction of St. Nicholas Avenue.  We always wondered what the cornice looked like on the corner building and the old archival photo provides a glimpse of the original architecture.  Top photo courtesy NYPL

    That's 116th and Seventh Avenue across from First Corinthians Baptist Church.

    St. Nicholas also crosses here. The giveaway are the ornamental spires on the building at the right.
