SHOP: WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO PATHMARK 145TH?

Many have written in about the closing of the large Pathmark supermarket on 145th Street and have been wondering what will happen going forward after this week. Crain's reported that the parent company A&P has filed for bankruptcy protection and will be letting go of the more expensive sites in Manhattan.  We received some information today on what will actually become of the store in the near future.
Basically A&P wants to sell off the site at an auction set for today and another supermarket chain already has one of the highest bids in for the 145th Street location. Everything will probably stay pretty much the same except for changes on the signage and packaging within.  Folks who want a Trader's Joe should probably not have their hopes too high on this one since what will be forthcoming is not anything too trendy.

  1. That space is way too large for Trader Joe's, also. Gristedes? Food Emporium?

This location always had the worst checkouts.

The place for a Trader Joe's would be as close to 125th A/C/B/D stop, since you could get some UWS traffic and customers all the way up to inwood.

  5. This Path Mark really did have the worst checkouts. Hopefully whoever buys it has better management.

  7. That place was always hell on earth. I stopped going years ago.

The Foodtown on Saint Nick and 148th just went through a complete renovation in and out and is a lot nicer now. They also added a lot of fresh produce.

    1. couldn't agree more! The Foodtown is so nice now, new meat section and the fruit and veggies section is like a 1000% better than it was. Prices have gone up a bit since the reno but still totally worth it, and they have great sales.

  10. Word is it will be a Foodtown. They will close, renovate, and reopen in December. No official closing notices have gone up yet though. Shelves are still mostly stocked.
