REMEMBER: HARLEM BILLBOARDS CIRCA 1942
Who can guess the location of this Harlem corner taken circa 1942? The majority of buildings are still intact at this intersection but some of the brownstones on the avenue at the far left have been demolished. A current photo will be posted later on with the answer.
ANSWER: This is a view of the north side of 125th Street at the corner of St. Nicholas Avenue. Popeye's currently takes up the commercial space at street level and the local youth LGBT organization is located upstairs. The view is interesting since one can see the original buildings on the avenue that once stood just a bit further north. Archival image courtesy NYPL
