REMEMBER: THREE KINGS DAY 2016
We had the chance to make it over to the 39th Annual Three Kings Day Parade over on 3rd Avenue heading north of 106th Street this morning. The festivities thrown by El Muse del Barrio celebrates the christian holiday in hispanic culture which acknowledges the gift giving of the three kings in the religious nativity story. This tradition was brought to El Barrio in the late 70s when the neighborhood was mostly Caribbean but now a lot of Central American cultures are present. Like Christmas, Three Kings Day is a big family holiday and many kids or young families participated in today's joyous fete of many cultures. As far as the parade, goes, it looks like there are more costume additions then the last time we had visited but the kings themselves were no longer on stilts as in the past.
