ARCHITECTURE: NEW WINDOWS AT STRIVERS ROW
The abandoned building on the FDB end of Strivers Row between 138th and 139th Street has been gutted in the past year but now some progress appears to be at hand. We walked by this section of 8th Avenue in the past week and noticed that new windows have been installed in the upper levels. Since the architecture of the block is part of the landmark district, it appears that the details of the new additions have to be more accurate to the time period that the address had been built. This entire complex will debut apartments in the near future but it is yet unclear if they will be rentals or condos. Some have mentioned that the lower storefronts have been shuttered for over 4 decades so it will be interesting to see the historic sight open up to pedestrian foot traffic once more when all finishes up.

The last store that closed at this site was a Dry Cleaners.
ReplyDeletewasn't that just north, where there was a fire?
DeleteThis has been an extremely slow renovation.
ReplyDeleteThe apartment building has been completely renovated and opened to renters beginning 2017. This has become my first New York Home :) interesting to read about the history. Shops are still not open, but large windows have been placed on the 139th st side.
