ARCHITECTURE: 17-21 WEST 118TH STREET
The city's initiative to revive some affordable housing has actually come up with quite a few great restorations in the neighborhood. We walked by 17-21 West 118th Street this week and noticed that the old tenement has been gut renovated with a mansard roof addition at top to add another level. This block just west of Fifth Avenue has quite a few bland buildings built in the mid century and restoring the more interesting older stock really looks fresh in comparison. According to the DOB paperwork submitted online, it appears that 35 apartments will arrive once the interior finishes up in the next few months.
